Decoupage became a popular pastime with ladies during the 18th century who used scraps to decorate screens, fans, boxes and other objects. Images are carefully cut and pasted, these are layered with coats of varnish which are sanded in between the layers causing the finished item to resemble Oriental laquerwork. Great care is taken in arranging the pictures to disguise edges creating a pleasing appearence and each mirror takes a considerable amount of time to make. Screens can be made to commission, please phone to discuss. |
